When cleaning betta fish tanks, it is important to note that the betta fish adapts to different water conditions therefore it should not be a frequent event. Cleaning the water tank should take into account that the fish needs to be acclimatized to new water added so it should be done carefully.

The first step to clean the betta fish tanks is to remove the fish and place it in a container with water from the tank. Drain the water tank and ensure that it is completely empty. Remove the stones and other decorations and also rinse them with clean water. Wash the tank using hot water. Do not use detergents and other cleaning agents. The toxicity even in the residue can cause harm to your fish.

When the betta fish tanks are clean and dry, fill the water halfway with tap water. Return the other decorations, rocks and substrate back into the fish tank. Bring the fish back and place it inside the tank with half of the old water. Then, fill the rest of the rest of the tank with tap water. It does not take much work and your fish tank is now clean.

You should be careful with the water that you use in the betta fish tanks. It is imperative that it is clean. If you are using tap water you should de-chlorinate it by adding a water conditioner. What this does if to remove any traces of chlorine that is in the water. The chlorine can be harmful to your fish. The water conditioner will also remove any harmful bacteria that may be in the water.

When changing the water in the tank, ensure that the temperature that the fish was in is similar to the temperature of the water you are introducing it too. If you do not so this, the change in temperature may kill the fish as its body cannot handle the sudden temperature change. By using thermometers that come with betta fish tanks, you can be able to determine the exact temperature that is required.

As a precaution, you should ensure that everything used to clean the betta fish tanks is sterilized. This means that it will not contain residue from other household activities. These include equipment like the plastic buckets used to clean, the towels etc. The container you use to hold the fish should also be clean very clean.

You should make the habit of testing the water a weekly one. This way you know how the water condition is. If the temperatures are fluctuating, you should find the cause and remedy it. The softness and hardness of water should also be checked regularly. Some fish thrive in soft water and vice versa. If this level changes you might start losing the fish.

It does not take much to clean betta fish tanks. The condition of the water environment will determine if the fish thrive, survive or just die. You should be able to monitor and know when to carry out this exercise.
